About The Program

Whether you’re a competitive debater or just like to make your point clear, this workshop is for you. Join us to learn the most effective ways to win a debate or wow people when you speak in public. You’ll improve your ability to persuade others. This short course will provide you with a deeper understanding of public speaking, argumentation, and competitive debate. This course will encourage you to reflect on the purposes and relevance of debate and public speaking, and their connections to society at large.

This experience consists of the following:

The Basics: Speaking in Public Speaking.
Speechwriting 101
Introduction to Logic
Competitive Debate
Speaking with Conviction

Meet Your Trainer: Gabi!

Gabrielle Fullam is an Irish writer and activist. She served as President and CEO of Trinity College Dublin Student Union from 2022-23, and holds a first-class honours degree in Philosophy, Political Science, Economics and Sociology. She is a winner of the Irish Times Debating Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world, and has been a finalist of 30+ European and Worldwide competitions.

Dates:

Saturday November 11 and Sunday November 12, from 12-2pm ET. Participants can also sign up for an additional hour of practice with Gabi during the second half of November.

Who is this program for?

This program is for youth ages 15-22. You do not need any particular prior experience or coursework; the biggest thing we look for is curiosity and eagerness to build skills. The program is held in English.

Where will this program take place?

This program takes place online. Participants should be able to join by video.

Price

The cost of this 5-hour program is $79, due upon acceptance into the program. Some scholarship funding may be available, and you can apply during the short application process.
