Join AMP as a Summer Intern!

AMP Global Youth was founded by students eager to take action around global issues. Through training programs and campaigns, we amplify the voice and power of global youth. Students lead much of our work, and we’re looking for the best and brightest in 2019! Is that you? Read on! The following positions are open for this summer.

GLOBAL EDUCATION / CURRICULUM INTERN: Summer 2019

The Global Education / Curriculum Intern provides essential support to AMP training programs, in particular our Global Scholar and Action Lab programs. The Intern will help refine and expand existing content, and deliver it during our summer training program Global Scholar. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in social change, global issues, education, training and/or facilitation.

Responsibilities include:

  • CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: Help expand existing curriculum components around youth leadership development, social change, and global issues. This might involve researching and/or drafting new activities, group projects, or readings. We prioritize learning through activities like simulations and group work, and the Intern will be asked to think creatively about methods to helping participants understand concepts and retain information.
  • RESEARCH: The Intern will also help research training content, for example around climate change or human rights, and support incorporating that content into our training work. This will involve scanning periodicals, journals, media and other sources for interesting content and approaches, under the guidance of program staff.
  • TRAINING PROGRAM SUPPORT: Intern will support testing and refinement of new curriculum components through our summer training program Global Scholar, as well as virtual training products we launch on our website and online throughout the school year.

AMP Interns are confident communicators; enthusiastic about leadership development, social change, and advocacy; passionate about global issues facing our generation; and dedicated to collaboration with fellow team-members. Successful applicant is a strong writer, and comfortable with finding and summarizing content and texts. We can / will teach applicant how to use these tools. We are a virtual organization, so interns must be self-starters and reliable too.

Benefits of working with AMP:

All team members receive ongoing training and support. We are a hands-on network: team members build real, marketable skills (no photocopying here!). They also benefit from working with an inspired community of young global leaders committed to securing youth engagement around global challenges.

Interns work 15 hours/week for a minimum of 8 weeks beginning in June 2019. This overlaps with our summer training programs based at American University in Washington, D.C. Thus work will be primarily face-to-face during the month of July, and virtual in June and August.

How to apply: Send your resume and a statement on why you’re interested in this position to opportunities@aidemocracy.org. Resumes accepted on a rolling basis, until the position is filled.

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN: Summer 2019

This is a great opportunity to learn how to manage social media for a fast-growing organization, from creating to managing to tracking content.

Responsibilities include:

  • CONTENT CREATION: Using our existing content strategy as a guide, the Intern will capture and develop engaging and shareable content featuring our summer training programs and trainees, as well as global issues and debates. This might range from creating an Instagram story about climate change to capturing a series of short videos of our training program participants.

  • LEAD ON VIDEO DEVELOPMENT: This summer we’re particularly interested in capturing and launching video content featuring our participants, trainers and community. The Intern will lead on helping us identify great stories, capture and edit them, and promote them online through IG TV and Youtube. The Intern will also develop scripts and best practices for creating video content on the medium-term.

  • BUILDING OUR COMMUNITY: We have a large alumni network and social media reach, and the Intern will identify and develop ways to showcase the power of youth around global issues and social change. This might include profiling alumni or student leaders doing inspiring work around global issues like climate change or food security.

Our programs are growing quickly, and the Social Media intern will have the opportunity to play an essential hands-on role making sure we do an exceptional job presenting, connecting and building our brand and programs.
