Join us as a Global Scholar Fellow in Summer 2018!

Americans for Informed Democracy/AMP Global Youth is seeking a valued member of our alumni network to help us host Global Scholar, our groundbreaking and intensive two-week academic enrichment program that offers rising high school juniors and seniors the chance to sharpen their understanding of international affairs and leadership skills in a university setting. The Fellow will provide program support during the July 2018 session. They will support training sessions and workshops, at times helping deliver training content and/or introduce speakers and facilitate conversations. They will also play a key role helping Global Scholars digest and reflect on information and themes presented throughout the experience, for example through discussion groups, breakout sessions, and individual and group assignments.

This is an intensive but fun experience for an individual interested in global affairs and youth leadership as well as the unique opportunity to demonstrate highly marketable skills on their resume. Successful candidates will have experience with residential trips/programs, as well as with the content of the Global Scholar program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating learning and ensuring program objectives are met. Although other staff and speakers will provide content, the Fellow should make connections between issues, facilitate critical thinking-led discussion and reflection, etc.

  • Ensuring that workshop speakers have all necessary information, and that room and equipment are in place, etc.

  • Writing up learnings from sessions into blog posts for the AMP Global Youth website

  • Finding, sharing, and posting relevant articles on themes covered and connected to the Global Scholar curriculum (international affairs and social justice).

  • Curation of pre-program learning materials.

  • Researching background information on speakers and experts as well as researching relevant subject matter for panel discussion moderation.

  • Helping facilitate panel discussions and workshops.

  • Writing up main talking points and takeaways from the day and consolidating Scholars knowledge for next-day quizzing.

Skills and Qualifications Needed:

  • Significant experience with public speaking; must be a confident and clear communicator.  

  • Enough experience with global issues and advocacy to lead group discussions on these topics.

  • Ability to connect ideas and distill complex subject matter

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

  • Quick-thinking and responsiveness in fast-paced environment.

  • Flexible and ability to adapt.

  • Excellent organizational skills; Fellow will help manage large amounts of information and tasks.

Hours and Benefits: This is a one-time position for the month of July. The Fellow will participate in two days of training before the start of the program. Food and housing are provided. A transportation stipend may also be available.
