We’re hiring! Program Fellow – Global Citizenship

What does it mean to be a global citizen? What skills, values and experiences does one need to be “globally literate”? Americans for Informed Democracy (AIDemocracy) is a national student network in pursuit of answers! The Program Fellow will help expand and refine our existing global citizenship curriculum, and help develop opportunities to bring it to college and high school students across the country. This is a great opportunity to build skills in program, professional and curriculum development. We’re building on a successful and proven model, but there’s lots of room to think about new ways to package and deliver this curriculum via online, face-to-face and paid programming.

AIDemocracy is a national student network founded after 9/11 to amplify the youth voice around US global engagement. We help students 1) understand key global challenges like poverty, maternal health, climate change and nuclear weapons, 2) train students to be powerful leaders and organizers, and 3) connect students to opportunities to take action at the campus and national levels.

  • Review, refine and expand our existing global citizenship curriculum, which includes modules on global challenges, leadership, amplifying student voice, and much more.
  • Help expand how we deliver this curriculum to high school and college students, via toolkits, webinars, face-to-face trainings, special events and more.
  • Support the scaling up of our successful summer program, Global Scholar.
  • Provide general programming support and input as needed, including with marketing and publicity, recruitment, logistics, staffing and more.

Skills and qualifications:

  • Some experience with educational programs and/or curriculum development at the secondary or college level.
  • Some experience with business or social entrepreneurship
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams

You’ll like this position if you:

  • Are interested in global education, and developing curriculum
  • Are entrepreneurial: can think creatively about how to make this program really take off
  • Are inspired to learn more about the inner workings of a small organization
  • Believe that students have the power to affect change

Skills you’ll gain:

  • Curriculum development
  • Program development
  • Training
  • Strategic planning
  • Communications

This is a part or full-time position; minimum commitment is 15 hours/week. Duration is negotiable, but must be for at least four months. Start date is flexible, although no later than January 23, 2012. Position is virtual (so yes you can do it from anywhere!), although there will be regular virtual meetings with other staff, coalitions, and partners. This is an unpaid position, although Fellow will be eligible for numerous training opportunities.

To apply: Please send a resume and cover letter to opportunities@aidemocracy.org. Put the title of the position you are applying for in the email subject line. No phone calls please. Applications accepted on a rolling basis. ampglobalyouth.org
